Job role

1. Annual review of the radiation safety program for adherence to ALARA (as low as reasonably achievable) concepts. 2. Develop, review, and implement a Radiation Safety Program. 3. Advice staff on Radiation Protection methods, Radiation imbalances and radiation safety. Conduct safety drills in work area. 4. Update Supervisors and staff on federal, state, and local radiation safety regulations, protocols, and/or procedures. 5. Participate in development, implementation and maintenance of policies, objectives, short-and long-range planning; develops and implements projects and programs to assist in accomplishment of established goals. 6. Prepares reports and other forms of scientific or technical nature, including publishing and revising the Campus Radiation Safety Manual and Unit SOP's as appropriate and performs an annual audit of the Radiation Safety Program. 7. Possession, use, and storage of licensed material are consistent with the limitations in the license, the regulations, the Sealed Sources and Device (SS&D) Registry KACARE, and the manufacturer's recommendations and instructions. 8. Ensures audits of the radiation safety program are performed at least annually and the audit records are maintained. 9. Personnel training including hands-on and refresher training are conducted annually and commensurate with the individual's duties regarding licensed material, and the training records are maintained for inspection. 10. Personnel monitoring devices are used and exchanged at the proper intervals as recommended by the manufacturer, and records of the results of such monitoring are maintained. 11. Quarterly review of occupational exposures. Conduct quarterly internal/ external reviews on radiation exposures to determine the standards are met at par with ALARA. 12. Quarterly review of records of radiation level surveys. Review radiation levels in unrestricted and restricted areas to determine that they were at ALARA levels during the previous quarter. 13. Schedule briefings and educational sessions to inform workers of ALARA programs. 14. Ensure that authorized users, workers, and ancillary personnel who may be exposed to radiation will be instructed in the ALARA philosophy and inform the management, the Radiation Safety Committee. 15. Perform other job-related duties as assigned by direct supervisor.
